Face-to-face ESA and PIP assessments Covid safety was created by phrank
Hi all,
Is it true that face to face assessments are back full swing?
It's just that in my local assessment centres, there is no way the assessment offices are dealt to cope with this.
My local PIP assessment centre has internal offices in the middle of the building and there are no windows or any means of ventilation. Plus they
are too small to accomodate three people.
Also, are they restarting Home Visits? If they are they can count me out as no-one is allowed in here except my friend/helper/carer since the pandemic began.
Sorry but I'm getting so uptight about the possibility of meeting a stranger face to face when I haven't even seen my family for well over a year.
I just hope and pray I get my assessment done paper based as my GP has asked as any other way and I will have to consider opting out.
Does anyone else feel the same or is it just me being stupid?
Regards,
Phrank.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Phrank
Yes, they have started face to face assessments and these have to be done under particular guidelines. The government says they have worked with providers to make sure any assessment centres are Covid 'friendy'.
Nothing has been said about home visits and I doubt those are going to start- because of the potential risk to assessors who know nothing about how safe someone's home is.
You're not being 'stupid' having concerns and you are certainly not the only one to have voiced them.

Phrank, they have restarted assessments, but for those that they can't make a decision on paper.
I'm the same feeling as yourself, the DWP have so much information on me and I state I won't attend any assessment at home or even a centre. Now they've bought in phone assessments I won't be doing them either.
The last few assessments have been done on papers only, but I do write an essay why I won't go to anymore assessments. I point then in every direction to contact all my health professionals, so far it's been working.
They won't do home assessments for a good while yet due to covid, even if they offered me one I will categorically tell them not a chance as this is my safe haven and my paperwork can back this up.
I'm fed up to the back teeth of the DWP.

Thanks BIS and ThisGov,
Glad I'm not the only one feeling like this I really thought I was starting to lose the plot big time.
Even if they turn down my GP's request for a paper based assessment is it possible to appeal and turn it around?
I just couldn't go through with one at present.
Regards,
Phrank.

Hi Phrank
There is no right to appeal if they refuse to do a paper-based assessment even with a letter from a GP - but if that happens I would use your MP. Quite a lot of MP's have been successful in getting the DWP to change their mind on all manner of things.

BIS my MP is a jerkasouraus.
Phrank if you have a psychiatrist that can spell it out that you cannot cope with this crap time after time that should work. I had 3 backup letters stating similar and that worked for me. Bear in mind I have tried to end my life because of all this constant barrage of assessments im not proud of myself for doing these things to myself.
