What is the criteria for Severe Disability Premium? There does not appear to be anything about this on this website.
I am on ESA Support group, living with far distant relatives and getting PIP daily living

Friend of mine is living with her father who gets attendance allowance and pip daily living with ESA and has had SDP added to hers but I have so far had nothing.

Was wondering is it possible to get a detailed criteria for SDP ?

Hello Jatt,

This is the best link I know for explaining SDP entitlement.

www.gov.uk/disability-premiums/eligibility

As you will see, generally you are not entitled to SDP if you are living with someone else. Your friend is an exception to this rule since the person she is living with get AA which is a qualifying benefit.

Thank you Catherine

Does it matter that I pay rent and those living in the house (relatives) pay rent too?

Hi Jatt

No it has nothing to do with paying rent.

The SDP became payable from the first day that all three of the following applied.

1. You had an award of ESA and we’re receiving or were entitled to receive Income Related ESA.

2. You had an award of PIP Daily Living

3. You met the criteria for payment of the SD Premium, namely that you lived alone or were considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance against your PIP award or as a couple you can qualify if both you and your partner get a qualifying benefit (PIP daily living or AA).

Thank you for your response. Just to clarify, you can get single persons SDP if you live with a family member getting a qualifying benefit?

Can someone on AA get SDP?

My Father gets PIP but owns his own home and has a lot of spare room. I am going to be moving in with him later this year, would I be able to apply then? And would it make any difference that he owns 2 homes?
