Hi,

I`m sorry, but DWP isn`t trying to "scam" anyone out of anything (I don`t work for DWP). And you aren`t entitled to anything until you have been assessed and as being entitled.

I get fed up with people saying they didn`t get what they are "entitled" to; nobody is entitled to anything until somebody in the myriad of DWP approves and awards whatever benefit the claim is for.

I know DWP isn`t perfect (by any means), but they are doing their job and, to be honest, I would rather a difficult claim process to weed out the fraudsters than a process that just says yes.

I know this is going to annoy people, but it`s what I think.

Andy

We are all entitled to our opinions - It would be a boring world if people didn't differ. I believe this article published today hits the nail on the head.

Well, Andrew, you are indeed entitled to your opinion and B&W have published it. No one here is asking for "a process that just says yes"; we want honest dealings and fair assessments, and reasonably prompt, consistent communications. I think you would expect no less from any business you deal with.
I believe if you check you will find out there is relatively little fraud by disability benefit applicants compared to tax fraud by companies. I fear you may have inadvertently come to believe the political slant of the right-wing media against needy people.
Yes you admit DWP 'isn't perfect'. But I believe if you had been subjected to the downright dishonest treatment that many of us or our loved ones have at the hands of the DWP, and or it's subcontractors, you may have formed a different opinion.

Lastly I would note that many people who say " they didn`t get what they are "entitled" to" are in the situation that they previously had a certain award, which has been removed despite proving either no change or deterioration in their abilities. Perhaps you could post again to explain how those claimants are 'not entitled' in your words, to the same benefit that DWP itself had given them.

Happy reflecting,
Denby

"I believe if you check you will find out there is relatively little fraud by disability benefit applicants compared to tax fraud by companies." Fair point.

"Perhaps you could post again to explain how those claimants are 'not entitled' in your words, to the same benefit that DWP itself had given them." My opinion has arisen from various forums that I read. My comment was aimed at those who are making a first application for PIP who don`t get what they "believe they are entitled to". It`s something that frustrates me considerably.

I`ve been appalled at those who were receiving x or y for years then lose it after a review, so I definitely wasn`t referring to those people. In this instance I`m guilty of letting my frustration overflow in the incorrect context. For that I apologise.

However I will, and do, maintain that DWP and it`s assessors are not out to "scam people". The people on the ground who have to deal with the claims are, in my eyes, unfairly criticised; the problem lies further up the tree.

Hi denby - Your quote "
Lastly I would note that many people who say " they didn`t get what they are "entitled" to" are in the situation that they previously had a certain award, which has been removed despite proving either no change or deterioration in their abilities. "

This is bang on correct with my situation. I was awarded standard for both daily living and mobility, and have just lost them this month, despite their being no changes to my physical or mental health.

Dear Chris, I hope you are able to [in the sense of energy etc] and succeed in contesting this patent unfairness. We won in the end every time with our daughter.
