Hi A,

Some years ago a claimant could receive a lifetime award, or be given the award until a specific date 20 or more years in the future.

Lifetime awards no longer happens, as the indefinate award is now used instead.

However an indefinate award can be reviewed at any time, and indeed a certain percentage are, at random each year.

So an indefinate award can not be regarded as being "for good", although that could be the case.

Indefinite means there is no expiry date. However ones DLA claim maybe subject to review under such as The Right Payment Programme where a small percentage of claims can be reviewed (some totally at random) at any point after the award has been in place for 12 months.

Also do not forget, with the impending launch of Personal Independence Payments which will replace DLA, all working age DLA claimants can expect to be reviewed when transferring to PIP.

Hi A,

Please be aware also that changes are proposed whereas DLA will change to PIP in 2013, if the Welfare Reform Bill is passed.

If this happens, all current DLA recipients may be reviewed under the new PIP legislation, under different qualifying criteria.
