The Work and Pensions Select Committee has announced the second oral evidence session for its inquiry into Employment and Support Allowance and Work Capability Assessments.{jcomments on}

This evidence session is intended to explore:

  • The efficiency of the appeals process

  • Demands on the Tribunal Service, and waiting times for appeals to be heard, including how delays might be reduced

  • How decisions made at tribunals are monitored and checked for quality

  • The feedback between HMCTS and DWP when DWP’s decision is upheld or overturned in an ESA appeal case

    Witnesses will include: HH Judge Robert Martin, President of the Social Entitlement Chamber, First-tier Tribunal; Kevin Sadler, Director of Civil, Families and Tribunals, HM Courts and Tribunals Service and; Richard Mason, Deputy Director for Civil Justice, Ministry of Justice
