Appeal statistics released by the Tribunals Service show that the success rate for PIP appeals has risen by 7% compared to the same period last year, reaching a new high of 71%.

The latest figures show that the success rate for appeals stands at:

  • PIP 71%,
  • ESA 70%,
  • Disability Living Allowance 63%,
  • Universal Credit 47%
  • Job Seekers Allowance 44%

The number of appeals lodged has actually fallen, with 18% fewer ESA appeals and 14% fewer PIP appeals compared to the same period last year.

However, the number of cases still waiting to be heard has continued to increase. There are now 125,281 social security and child support cases waiting to be heard, up 29% on the same period last year.

It is now taking an average of 25 weeks to deal with an appeal, up 8 weeks on last year.
