The number of fresh claims for PIP is returning to normal after earlier falls, but mandatory reconsideration (MR) requests are still very much lower according to the latest DWP statistics.

According to the DWP, in July 2020 there were 45,000 registrations for new PIP claims which is 8% lower than the level a year earlier.

However, in April of this year there were just 25,000 new claims, which was 42% down on the same month last year.

So, PIP new claims are clearly moving back to normal levels

Requests for changes of circumstances have actually increased. There were 7,300 changes of circumstances requests in July, 2% higher than the level a year earlier.

However, MRs were considerably down. There were just 15,000 MR registrations, the lowest number since September 2015.

This may in part be due to claimants finding it more difficult to get advice and support in relation to MRs from advice agencies.
