The DWP has restored a claimant’s PIP award and apologised after she was the subject of foul abuse in a set of appeal papers.

Last month we reported on the case of a PIP claimant who was called a ‘lying bitch’ in the papers prepared for her appeal by the DWP.

The issue was subsequently picked up by the national press and referred to in the House of Commons.

As a result the DWP have now mounted a damage limitation exercise.

The department has overturned their own decision that the claimant was not entitled to PIP without the issue going before a tribunal.

In addition they have written a letter of apology and are considering a ‘consolatory’ payment of £250 to the claimant.

However, judging by posts on the Rightsnet welfare rights forum, where the case first came to light, it seems likely that the abused claimant will be taking further action.
