Hi Jianne,
I am sorry for your loss, I appreciate that dealing with PIP is probably the last thing you want to do just now
The assessor could arrive on time, early, late or not at all.
They are unlikely to even try and write down everything you say - what they will be doing is formulating their own comments based on what you say and what they observe.
There will not be much in the way of physical exam (this is not a 'medical' in any accepted sense of the word) and you can refuse to do anything that would cause you pain or damage. However, you must make it absolutely clear that this is the only reason you are refusing, not because you don't want to co-operate.
Medicals usually last for around an hour - plus or minus 30 minutes each way!
You can chose which room you want the assessment to take place in, you can also chose who you want to have with you.
The assessor will not want to look around your home - and does not have the right to do so anyway! They ave just the same rights as any other visitor to your home.
You cannot provide photo ID if you don't have any! If you have something that shows proof of address it will be a start.
Our PIP guide explains what to expect on the day in more detail.

Hi
Just thought I would let you know I had my home assessment today she arrived exactly on time ...she was really nice maybe too nice ???She tried to put me at ease she arrived armed with her computer and notes on me she had clearly read my form and letters....she started by telling me she would recommend I had no further assessments after this one has clearly my conditions where not going to get any better...and she could say that she was confident my award would remain the same....she looked at my medicines and asked about how often I took them ect...she also advised me on taking extra if I needed to and reassured me this was safe...and advised me to see a doctor to discuss upping my dose ....she spent a lot of time focusing on certain conditions and I felt she understood them...she wrote about my needs help I needed ect...then she did the moving around she wrote about my inability to walk 20 metres pain and I would need to rest she also put I could not do it reliably repeatedly ect....She told me a physical was not necessary in these circumstances as she had enough from the written information....and that I would hear in 6 to 8 weeks possibly sooner....so now the waiting begins one worry as been replaced by another....after all the horror stories I am cynical about a good outcome ....but wether or not it was genuine niceness..I don't know ..I will say the lady was professional nice and offered me advice on medications ect ...this took 1hour 45 minutes...Oh she also wrote I was in pain throughout .....I'm not sure how it went to be honest ..but it was not as horrific as I imagined.....She told me I could get a copy of her report but I forgot to ask how ....do I phone atos or the dwp and when should I do this???

Jianne
Wait a couple of days and then phone the DWP office dealing with your claim to request the assessment report.

The addresses will be on any recent correspondence. However, if you are going to phone, it is one number for everyone.
