Hello Themac,

I agree with BIS, and would recommend that you contact the DWP and request a paper based assessment, perhaps the nurse who sees you would write a supporting letter to go with that request. A note of encouragement, the majority of paper assessments I have come across have resulted in what the claimant believes is the correct outcome.

However I can understand why you are concerned. Hopefully there will not be a clash over your time in hospital / recovery period and your assessment, but if there is you need to let the DWP know as soon as you can. Your treatment must take priority, and they will have to give you a fresh appointment if they are unwilling to do a paper assessment.

I hope things start to improve for you soon,
Catherine

Thamkyou to Catherine for the last advice my son was over yesterday and was reading my last letter from the hospital and said to me dad you no your not well and we can see you are not well and struggling and in pain on your letter from the Hospitial it says they have give you a safety net what it means is you can just turn up at the Hospitial and show this letter and you will be admitted then , I understand that but you have to see my point of view I said, he returned with I would rather have you here in better health than fight for any money what you should be getting anyway if that makes any sense to people can you explain what you mean by the paper assessment kind regards and thankyou. It’s Sunday today and I can feel myself getting weaker with this I hope it’s just all the stress I’m going through ,,,,,

Hi, a paper based assessment means they make a decision looking at the form and evidence you have sent in, and do not phone to assess you at all. They did this for our daughter as the prospect of a phone assessment made her freak out mentally, and her GP wrote to back up that it would cause "Overwhelming Psychological Distress" if they phoned her.
Given your medical situation it is perfectly reasonable in my untrained opinion to ask them to do a paper based assessment. The important thing if you do/get your son to ask for you, is to have your son call them every couple of days to see if the report has been completed and ask for a copy to be sent to you. Them read it/get your son to read it to see if it is truthful and complete. If not a letter can be written ASAP to put them right.
Best wishes to you and for successful surgery, Denby

Hi all well iv had a short stay in Hospitial and that got me rested and relaxed after a few small interventions I had a very bad internal infection i have to go back in for the major surgery of witch is going to take place very very soon in fact I had one of my surgeons on the phone yesterday they are now just waiting for a listed time slot for my surgery as this involves 3 surgeons my urologist a bowl surgeon and a general surgeon they even said at Hospitial all this stress is not good for you I should be back in by the end of the month il keep you up dated on that
As far as the pip claim goes yes I had the telephone assessment as my son tried to tell them I was not well and they said that they would just put it on hold till I gave them notice otherwise. my son disagreed and we had to go ahead with the phone assessment it was terrible it lasted for 1hr and 24min the lady doing the call was pleasant and gave me time to answer but be very careful as they kept trying to catch me out I thought like asking the same questions but in a different format like I was asked if I go out anywhere I said no then a few questions later would say so when you go out we’re would you go then asked how do I do my shopping I told her it was done for me then again a few questions later said so when you do your shopping how do you manage again I said I don’t do shopping it is done for me and delivered the assessment went on to ask them sort of questions one question I was a bit confused about was my bank account and do I have any direct debits coming out of my account I had my son and my career with me and the phone was on loud speaker this was also getting recorded for my benefit as I have a problem with my hands with carpel tunnel and arthritis the phone was on the coffee table beside me but she did ask so what hand am I holding the phone in none as I get cramp in my hands after so long so it is on speaker on the coffee table at the end of the report my son asked how long this would now take as iv had no money since January 8th as it was stopped she seamed to want to no why it had been stopped and what for my son told her then she said it is taking the DWP up to another 8 weeks to make a decision on claims from receiving her report so all I can do now is wait and see I did say to her I just hope they understand my conditions and award me the money I am entitled to I’m now focusing on my next surgery in the next week or two as iv been told to just rest and relax at home till then thankyou to all who have replied to my posts and if I can’t keep you updated my son will on my behalf Themac

Hi Themac

What a challenging time you are having. Hope by the time you read this there have been some improvements. If you want to know how the assessment went, you can ring up and ask for a copy - it's a PA4. You don't have to wait for the decision.
