"Invited" to Apply for PIP

To a considerable extent it will depend on the relationship you have with your GP, some will enquire about how your conditions affect your daily life, some will not.
As to their responding, for some issues their impact will be obvious, as an example; some form of Arthritis in the legs would likely lead to problems with walking and so I would expect a GP to be able to comment on this and even how far a claimant could reasonably walk.
Some issues will reasonably imply problems, again Arthritis in the shoulders would imply problems with washing and dressing, a diagnosis of OCD might also imply problems In these areas as well. The GP may not be able to define the extent of the problems but should be able to confirm that the issues are reasonable.
Other areas, like preparing a meal or planning a route may be more difficult, the claimant can always provide a letter to be include on their medical records explaining what difficulties they have and why, whilst the GP may explain that this is information that has been given to them they can still offer an opinion as to whether they think the problems are reasonable or not based on the claimants medical history.

Thank you Gordon, I get on well with my GP and have always found her supportive and sympathetic. I have considered writing a letter as you suggest but I suppose I worry that it could appear that I am leading or coaching her as to what to say on my behalf which I obviously would not want at all.
I wondered if I should ask her directly whether a letter outlining with difficulties I face against the descriptors would be helpful or indeed welcome? I am due to see her on 17 March so have some time in hand.

The worst that can happen is that she says no!

I have been browsing some PIP queries, I have just about completed my PIP form ready to send off, at my initial phone all I was asked if the DWP could use my DLA reports, I didn't say no but pointed out that as my last one was 8 years old there probably wasn't much point as my conditions have worsened since then and as we all know DLA and PIP are not the same anyway.
My question is will Capita and the DWP know or take into account that I was in DLA indefinite award HRM and LRC, does this influence them in anyway. I have alluded to it once on the PIP form on the" moving about" question as I felt it was pertinent to my walking difficulties, but I am now wondering whether to enclose a copy of my latest DLA award letter just in case, or is this a waste of time and paper? Thanks.

Hi mcw,
"My question is will Capita and the DWP know or take into account that I was in DLA indefinite award HRM and LRC, does this influence them in anyway."
It may do, but I would not rely on that alone.
As you rightly state the qualifying criteria for DLA and PIP are totally different, and they would be assessing you on how you are now, not how you were in the past !!

Again, you can include this if you wish, but I would not rely on this alone !
They will only be interested in whether you now score enough points under the applicable DL/Mobility Descriptors for the appropriate DL/Mobility Activity.

Just a quick question, I sent off PIP form and all the accompanying paraphernalia via special delivery this morning. Hopefully they should rceive it tomorrow. Does anyone know how soon after they receive it I will hear anything from Capita? Thanks.
